Tournament Format Double EliminationThe purpose of a Double Elimination style tournament is to guarantee at least two games per team or, in other words, each team must lose twice before they are knocked out. In years past, with the Single Elimination format, half of the teams would play once and then would be knocked out. We want all teams to play a minimum of two games as well as for every team to have an equal chance to play in the Championship game regardless of who their first opponent is that day.The format is simple; winners move on to play winners and losers go to the Consolation Bracket. Start times are set for each game in every division, but which game your team plays after Round 1 (Game 1 and Game 2) depends entirely on the outcome your team has the first day. Just be aware that you can lose your first game and still have a chance to win the tournament! If your team wins twice, you automatically move to Game 6 and play the winner of the Consolation bracket. Please note: Game 7 will ONLY occur if the team from the Consolation bracket wins Game 6. The reason is that if the Consolation bracket team loses, that will be their second loss and they will be knocked out. If however, the team that loses Game 6 has not lost before, they still have one more chance to play before they are knocked out.Boards with brackets and game times will be available for viewing near the SCCYSA Office at Mueller located under the Concession pavilion by Field 5. Games will also be updated in the system as winners are determined throughout the day. Teams participating in the tournament will get an email notification as soon as their team has been added to a new game. Please see the table below for a general format guideline.
