I signed up a new individual player this season. When will I find out what team they are on?
Individual players will be placed by grade, gender, and school whenever possible. We start placing our individual players after our registration deadline. We wait till after the deadline so we know all of the teams we have in our league and can make an attempt at placing individual players as close as possible to their school or neighborhood. This process sometimes takes a couple of weeks from the registration deadline. The coaches receive all player information at the coach meeting (Aug 10 for fall and Feb 8 for spring ). Please allow at least one week for the coach to get organized. If you do not hear from a coach after two weeks please call 498-1056. When the coach and parents talk, this will be when the individual player finds out about team practices and games.
What size of soccer ball will I need?
Our league uses three sizes of soccer balls for play; size 3, size 4 and size 5. All teams U4 thru U8 will use a size 3 soccer ball, all teams U9 thru U12 will use a size 4 ball and all teams U13 and older will use a size 5 soccer ball. Remember that the league only provides the coach with game balls, so we suggest that all players purchase a ball and use those for practices and games.
When and where are practices held?
Your coach is a volunteer and donates his/her time. He/she will select a practice time and location. If the day or time does not work for the player or family we can try to move the player to a different team, or we will give a refund up until the games start.
How many players play on the field at one time?
The SCCYSA league currently plays small sided games.
U4/U5 is 3 vs. 3
U6 is 4 vs. 4
U7 is 5 vs. 5
U8 is 7 vs. 7
U9/10/11/12 is 8 vs. 8
U13 and older is 11 vs. 11.
Do the players receive any type of award each season?
Every player in our league receives a participation award each season that they play. The participation awards are usually some type of medal/trophy/t-shirt. All of the awards are handed out towards the end of each season and given to the coach of each team to hand out to their players.
When do we receive new uniforms?
All teams receive new uniforms (jersey, shorts and sock) each Fall season and will use these jerseys for that season and the following Spring season. If a team is new to the league in the Spring (which means they didn’t play the previous Fall season), they will receive new uniforms for that season. Also, any individual players who are new to a team in the Spring season will receive a new uniforms for that season. All jerseys are handed out to the coaches prior to each season. If a player needs a replacement jersey, they are available from SCCYSA for a nominal fee. Player fees for fall season are higher to pay for uniforms.
A player requesting to change teams between fall and spring season will have to pay the new player fee because they will receive a new uniform.
If team has their own uniform, the registration fee is $10.00 less per player in the Fall season only.
Do you have to attend the Coaches Meeting each season?
The league requires that each team send a representative to their designated coaches meeting each season. This representative does not have to be the coach but at least someone who is familiar with the operations of your team. These meetings are important for discussing new information from the league, picking up scheduling information sheets, and receiving new handouts for the upcoming season.
Can a player participate with a broken arm, wrist, etc.?
Yes, a player may participate in games and practices if they first, have a signed note from their doctor allowing participation, and second, have attached some sort of padding protection to the cast so that it will not injure them or another player who may come in contact with the cast. As always, the referee has the final say whether or not the player will be allowed to play.
Are players allowed to wear earrings or any other type of jewelry?
Players are not allowed to wear any type of jewelry during practices or games. This rule is strictly enforced by league officials. The only exceptions to this rule are medical alert bracelets and necklaces required to be worn at all time by the players doctor.
When are field closings and game cancellations made by?
The league will determine playability of the fields for games daily and will update our rain out line. The Rain Out Line is updated the same day as the game and normally two hours before the games start. So, on Sat the hotline should be updated by 6 am, on Sun by 10 am, and weeknights by 4 pm.
Rain-Out Line is for coaches only. Our league is too large to give out the Rain-Out Line to all the parents. Therefore we recommend that all coaches set up a phone tree to make phone calls faster and easier. Coaches, remember to always check with the Rain Out Line prior to heading to the fields for current updates. It may have been sunny that day but it rained 2 inches the day before, which will close the fields even though it is nice out.
If a game rains out, do we make it up?
Our rain out policy states that we will try to make up all rained out games unless the coach does not want to continue playing. We will try and fill in games throughout the season when possible otherwise games will be added to the end of the season. Make-up games due to weather will be e-mailed out to coach/manager.. We will reschedule around original conflicts, we would prefer not making any changes after the e-mails have been sent.
The league provides a uniform, what else do the players need to have?
The league requires all players to wear shin guards during practices and games. These can be purchased anywhere sporting goods are sold, such as Gaffney's, Johnny Mac's, or Soccer Master. Rubber Cleated Soccer Shoes are not required, yet they are highly recommended (due to possible wet grass conditions). Rubber Cleated Baseball Cleats ARE NOT ALLOWED. The last item needed would be a proper sized soccer ball. A soccer ball is recommended for practice. Size 3 for U4-U8, size 4 for U9-U12 and size 5 for U13 and older.
If I have a problem with my coach or another coach or with something what went on in a game or practice, what should I do?
Please contact your commissioner (click on Contacts). We can not help you resolve a problem if we are not aware of the situation. If the problem requires action by the Board of Directors we ask that a statement be put in writing describing the situation. Player/parents names will kept strictly confidential, unless noted.
When and where are practices held?
Your coach is a volunteer and donates his/her time. He/she will select a practice time and location. If the day or time does not work for the player or family we can try to move the player to a different team, or we will give a refund up until the games start.
How old must my child be to play youth soccer?
Your child must be 4 years old by Sept 12, 2010 to play in fall and March 6, 2011 to play in spring .
Your best approach is to contact your commissioner (Contacts Page). Their is a check box on the player registration form that needs to be checked. For more coach info...see Coach Corner.
What about Team/Individual Photos?
Land O Frost sponsorship for U4-U8 requires a team photo to be taken of the back of the uniforms. Otherwise, team/individual photos may be taken at the teams digression.
Our current photo company is STL Digital 314-616-8622 or www.stldigital.com . They do provide SCCYSA with a donation based on total SCCYSA sales!
Warm ups, sweats, and/or warm clothing containing non metal zippers or other hard or sharp parts may be worn. Jerseys and shorts must be visible and number must not be covered. Gloves and head coverings (no hard brim hats) are permitted. NO hooded sweatshirts or jackets with hood's for safety reasons.
A team parent coordinates with the coach on getting information from the coach to the parents. The following are some items that the team parent can do for the coach: call chain, emergency player information sheets, and drink/treat lists.
SCCYSA will have high school girls teams only in the fall and high school boys teams only in the spring. In order for players to be in compliance with MSHSAA (Missouri States High School Activities Association) rules, During the high school sport season students shall neither practice nor compete as a member of a nonschool team or as an individual participant in organized nonschool competition in that same sport.
Is it ok to have the players' names on the back of the jerseys?
Some teams like to put the players’ names on the jerseys. Wait until the parents have viewed the uniform for size before having the names on the jerseys.
You should be aware that some parents will find putting names on jerseys objectionable because it makes it easy for a stranger to address the child by their name.
Do I have to live in St. Charles County to play?
No, SCCYSA has no restrictions on were you live. Just keep in mind that we put teams together by geographic area and most participants are the in the St. Charles County area, so if you live outside St. Charles County you will be placed as geographically as possible.
