Every coach, assistant coach, and manager involved with youth teams must go through a criminal background check. This procedure is online via the Coaches Corner and are repeated each seasonal year (Aug 1-July 31)
Seasonally a coach, assistant coach and manager must sign a coach code of conducts and team information sheet online via the Coaches Corner.
Coaching License course is required for all SCCYSA coaches (see Calendar for schedule and pre-registration) Clinics are in Feb and Aug. The $35.00 fee for this clinic is paid by SCCYSA (Coaches DO NOT PAY). We do allow a 1 year grace period for license. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO GIVE US A COPY OF YOUR LICENSE.
Formal knowledge of soccer and or playing background is preferred by not required
We would prefer that all coaches have a child/step-child, brother/sister, niece/nephew, or cousin of some sort on the team. top How do I become a coach? Your best approach is to contact your commissioner (Contacts Page). Their is a check box on the player registration form that needs to be checked. This is a visible notification that tells the team, parents, game officials and administrators that you are rightfully on the side line and then keep reading this page... top Do you have to attend the Coaches Meeting each season? The league requires that each team send a representative to their designated coaches meeting each season. This representative does not have to be the coach but at least someone who is familiar with the operations of your team. These meetings are important for discussing new information from the league, picking up scheduling information sheets, and receiving new handouts for the upcoming season. PLEASE!!! Call players immediately!!! Even if you are not going to practice right away. Make sure that you leave your contact phone number. If you are going to e-mail information please call and let them know to check their e-mails. Then they can print the e-mail with your name and phone number. RECOMMEND TO THEM TO PUT YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBERS ON REFRIGERATOR OR WHEREVER THEY KEEP IMPORTANT PHONE NUMBERS. top When and where are practices held? You are a volunteer and are donating your time, you must select a practice time and location or take a poll from the parents. Suggestions: we put teams together geographically so the team can practice closer to home. Please try to pick a school yard, park, field closed to your teams homes. If your team is a mixture of areas try to pick somewhere geographically centered to all players if possible. You can select an area that does not require a permit like a school yard of park, but remember that most places that do not require a permit are first come first serve. Or you can obtain a permit from the local cities. Check with the school or parks department and see what their requirements are for practice. Practice spots for spring are hard because of daylight, try getting a gym or use your basement. If your practice time or day does not work for a player or family we can try to move the player to a different team, or we will give a refund up until the games start. top When do we receive schedules, uniforms, game balls, and coach badges? All schedules, uniforms, games balls, and coaches badges are handed out to the coaches prior the season (see Calendar). All teams receive new uniforms (jersey, shorts and sock) each Fall season and will use these jerseys for that season and the following Spring season. If a team is new to the league in the Spring (which means they didn’t play the previous Fall season), they will receive new uniforms for that season. Also, any individual players who are new to a team in the Spring season will receive a new uniforms for that season. If a player needs a replacement jersey, they are available from SCCYSA for a nominal fee. Player fees for fall season are higher to pay for uniforms. A player requesting to change teams between fall and spring season will have to pay the new player fee because they will receive a new uniform. If team has their own uniform, the registration fee is $10.00 less per player in the Fall season only. top Where are the rules? Click on Forms and Rules on home page for more details. U4/U5 is 3vs.3 U6 is 4vs.4 U7 is 5vs.5 U8 is 7vs.7 U9/10/11/12 is 8vs.8 U13 and older is 11vs.11. top Do the players receive any type of award each season? Every player in our league receives a participation award each season that they play. The participation awards are usually some type of medal/trophy/t-shirt. All of the awards are handed out towards the end of each season and given to the coach of each team to hand out to their players. top Can a player participate with a broken arm, wrist, etc.? Yes, a player may participate in games and practices if they first, have a signed note from their doctor allowing participation, and second, have attached some sort of padding protection to the cast so that it will not injure them or another player who may come in contact with the cast. As always, the referee has the final say whether or not the player will be allowed to play. top Are players allowed to wear earrings or any other type of jewelry? Players are not allowed to wear any type of jewelry during practices or games. This rule is strictly enforced by league officials. The only exceptions to this rule are medical alert bracelets and necklaces required to be worn at all time by the players doctor. top When are field closings and game cancellations made by? The league will determine playability of the fields for games daily and will update our rain out line. The Rain Out Line is updated the same day as the game and normally two hours before the games start. So, on Sat the hotline should be updated by 6 am, on Sun by 10 am, and weeknights by 4 pm. top Rain Out Line? Rain-Out Line is for coaches only. Our league is too large to give out the Rain-Out Line to all the parents. Therefore we recommend that all coaches set up a phone tree to make phone calls faster and easier. Coaches, remember to always check with the Rain Out Line prior to heading to the fields for current updates. It may have been sunny that day but it rained 2 inches the day before, which will close the fields even though it is nice out. top If a game rains out, do we make it up? Our rain out policy states that we will try to make up all rained out games unless the coach does not want to continue playing. We will try and fill in games throughout the season when possible otherwise games will be added to the end of the season. Make-up games due to weather will be E-mailed out to coach/manager. . We will reschedule around original conflicts, we would prefer not making any changes after the e-mails have been sent. top The league provides a uniform, what else do the players need to have? The league requires all players to wear shin guards during practices and games. These can be purchased anywhere sporting goods are sold, such as Gaffney's, Johnny Mac's, or Soccer Master. Rubber Cleated Soccer Shoes are not required, yet they are highly recommended (due to possible wet grass conditions). Rubber Cleated Baseball Cleats ARE NOT ALLOWED. The last item needed would be a proper sized soccer ball. A soccer ball is recommended for practice. Size 3 for U4-U8, size 4 for U9-U12 and size 5 for U13 and older. top
